A-Thons Reliable earner Effort: Low

Serve-a-Thon

Off-season or a bye weekBest for: every sport and booster club

The team pledges a day of community service (park cleanup, food bank, senior yard work) and supporters pledge per hour served. Goodwill and money in one move.

Why it works

Donors love funding kids who work for it, twice as much when the work helps the town. It's the rare fundraiser that makes the local paper, wins over skeptics, and builds the brand sponsors want next to theirs.

How to run it

  1. 1

Pick one visible service day: park cleanup, food bank shift, senior yard brigade, and set a team hour goal (e.g., 20 athletes x 4 hours = 80 hours).

  2. 2

Create an A-Thon with a realistic service-hour target. Supporters fund that target or give a flat gift and pay upfront; actual hours are recorded for the recap.

  3. 3

Have every athlete personalize a page and add 10-15 contacts so Sports Supporters runs the organizer's scheduled email and text sequence automatically. Use the suggested cadence or adjust it to the event date.

  4. 4

Invite the local paper and take constant photos, teens raking a veteran's yard is front-page bait.

  5. 5

Log the hours publicly as they happen ('47 of 80 hours in the books!').

  6. 6

Close with a recap post: hours served, dollars raised, and what the town got out of it, then thank every donor by name.

  7. 7

At kickoff, confirm every athlete's page and contacts are complete, then let the automated campaign run while the team prepares the service day.

You (organizer)
  • Book the service sites and set the hour goal.
